Holy Mardi Gras! Check out Julian Checkley’s amazing Batman suit that he created himself. The realistic costume is patterned after the suit worn by the Dark Knight as seen in the video game Batman: Arkham Origins, and is not only impressive to say the least, but has also earned its creator a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Julian was awarded a world record which states that his costume has the most functional gadgets with a staggering number of pieces just over 20. Given the creator’s background as a special effects artist, Julian was able to create all of Batman’s hi-tech gadgets with great realism and authenticity. Julian confessed that, “there were many long hours trying devising the gadgets and finding ways to store them on the suit.” He had no choice but to find ways to integrate all 23 pieces of gear into his suit. Had any of the gadgets been separate or carried pieces, he would not have earned a place in the record books according to Guinness. They were very specific about this rule/guideline.
The suit carries many of the classic Batman weapons such as the iconic Batarang, but again, it also conceals many of the weapons exclusively seen in Arkham. Weapons such as the grappling hook, a Bluetooth ‘Bat Tracker’ and an EMP Stun Gun sporting a 2000 wattage output. That’s going to leave a mark! All of which have enough detail in them that they appear as if they were taken from the video game itself.
Creating this stunning suit was a labor of love for Julian. “I’ve always been a Batman fan,” he confessed. “He’s kind of an anti-hero. He’s kind of dark, but he’s still a good guy. And there’s so much scope to do so many fun things with the suit – I love the suit. I loved building it.”
“The Arkham Origins game really has Batman’s gadgets in there, and they’re quite specific to Arkham Origins,” Julian stated. Chicks may love the car, but for Julian, it’s all about the gadgets
When Julian is suited-up, the costume takes him up to a staggering height of over 6”10’ due his cowl’s ears. To add more hi-tech to the project, Julian used a 3D printer to create molds for each piece of the suit that he then cast in rubber. Each piece was then meticulously detailed by hand and then mounted to an undersuit before distressing Batman’s suit so it looked as if it had been used to protect Gotham’s crime-ridden streets.
“To be a record-holder is amazing, quite literally amazing,” Julian admitted excitedly. When asked about which Bat-gadget was his favorite of all, the creator said he most liked Batman’s gas dispenser and Bat Tracking device.
