It was announced yesterday that Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), and it’s director, David Ayer, will be joining forces once again in these same roles but in a live-action adaption of Paul Dini’s comic book series Gotham City Sirens.
Despite the lackluster and even negative response from critics to Suicide Squad, David Ayer has decided to forge ahead with this new DC Film project. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Ayer has committed to direct Gotham City Sirens, which is a film that will “showcase the top female villains from the DC stable.” It’s no secret that Robbie’s interpretation of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad was a huge hit with the fans (especially the fanboys) as the character basically stole the show from her fellow cast members.
Robbie is also serving as executive produce on the project with both DC Films head honchos Geoff Johns and Jon Berg producing. It’s a stellar lineup behind the camera but who exactly will we be seeing in the siren roles? Robbie’s Quinn is confirmed and if Ayer’s recent tweet is any indication, see below, we may very well be seeing Poison Ivy AND Catwoman together on the screen as well. MEOWW!
Ayer may just be teasing us by using pre-existing Siren artwork here, but there may also be some truth in its selection as well. The tweet features the “Sirens4ever” hashtag with artwork showcasing Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. It could indeed indicate that Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who’s been tapped to develop the screenplay for the film, will be staying faithful to the source material. Who can say?
No release date has been set for the film yet, but it’s been indicated that there’s a push to have Gotham City Sirens fast-tracked and in a theater near you sooner than later. I don’t know about all of you, but as far as I’m concerned, I am totally okay with that.
Let us know what you think about this Bag Girl Buddy film.
