Dolph Lundgren enjoyed working on The CW’s Arrow series as the villainous Konstantin Kovar so much, that he’s signed on for yet another DC Universe production. It was revealed late yesterday in the Hollywood Reporter that Lundgren has just been cast in James Wan’s upcoming big budget production of Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa. He will be portraying King Nereus of Xebel, who not only wants to take out Momoa’s character, but also wants to claim Mera (Amber Heard) for his own.
The bad guys for this film are starting to add up. The addition of Lundgren brings the total number of villains for the film to three, along with both Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) and Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) set to make appearances in the film as well. That’s a lot for one hero to take on. My guess is that Mera will be more than just a pretty face on the screen and will be playing a much larger part in delivering aquatic justice alongside Momoa’s Aquaman.
James Wan’s Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa as the title role, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, with Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna and Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s father, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 21, 2018. The screenplay comes from Will Beall, with story by Wan and DC Films co-head Geoff Johns.
