The CW is adding a love interest for young Bruce Wayne in Gotham’s second season. And it is none other than Silver St.Cloud. The character will be portrayed by actress Natalie Alyn Linds recently seen on The Goldbergs. Both Bruce and Silver have much in common in that they both lost their parents at young ages and both of their families are a part of Gotham’s high society. Silver’s millionaire, philanthropist uncle, Theo Galavan, played by James Frain, is running for mayor of Gotham City.
The character is being described as “an ethereal beauty with the pristine manners of a Gotham debutante, who has a heart beating with dark intent.” Why does Bruce always fall for the bad girls? This is actually somewhat of a departure from the character’s origin. We were first introduced to the character back in 1977 when she was created by Steve Englehart and Walt Simonson. DC was looking to breathe some new life in Batman’s universe back then, and while they greatly liked Englehart’s writing, Simonson’s artwork was not exactly what they were looking for. That’s when Marshall Rogers was brought in to do the pencil work and blew the doors off of the project. The character of Silver St. Cloud was beautiful, smart, strong willed, and a successful business woman. She was the perfect love interest for Bruce Wayne. But most importantly she was realistic. This story arc went on to become known as one of the best written and drawn portrayal of the Batman character in comic history and is rumored to have been the stepping stone for the groundwork leading to the first serious Batman films.
Gotham returns Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
