Theater-goers venturing out today to catch Batman: The Killing Joke in theaters for its limited-run via Fathom Events received an unexpected treat at all of its screenings across the country. The premiere includes a sneak preview at Justice League Dark, WB Animation’s next animated feature to be released. Fortunately, for all those who will not be attending any of these screenings, this sneak preview has already made it’s way online and we have it here for you.
The preview features various animations clips from the film intermixed with behind-the-scenes interviews with Justice League Dark’s creators as well as some early storyboards and concept art.
The Justice League Dark, first created back in 2011, comprised of characters whose abilities go beyond the physical world and originate in the occult and supernatural realms. Team members include John Constantine, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Demon, and Black Orchid. Classic Justice League team members such as Green Lantern and Batman appear to establish relevance for the team’s existance.
Creative Director Mike Carlin stated that, “Justice League Dark is what it sounds like. It’s the dark side of justice. A group of supernatural heroes who band together loosely to take on occult threats, supernatural threats – threats that the real Justice League may be powerless against.”
“The mainstream heroes are not the right guys for the job,” Carlin goes on to say. “These are not guys who go to meetings and sit around a table. They kind of appear and disappear when needed.”
Producer James Tucker clarifies the need for the team’s existence by saying, “It’s a Justice League movie, but it’s not….They don’t look like your typical superheroes. They’re outcasts. No one is happy when they show up. If anything, with Justice League Dark, everyone’s frightened when they show up. They misunderstand them, so having monstrous people do heroic things is always kind of cool.”
At just over 8 minutes, this sneak peak may be short in time but it’s packed with exclusive concept art and in-depth details which will get any fan excited for the upcoming film.
Justice League Dark is scheduled to hit Blu-Ray, DVD, and VOD later this fall.
