SYFY has announced two new significant additions to the cast of Krypton — DC Entertainment’s first attempt to deliver the untold story of Superman’s doomed home planet as well as a TV prequel to the blockbuster movie Man of Steel.
Actress Paula Malcolmson will be portraying Charys, great grandmother to Kal-El, matriarch of the House of El and guiding hand behind her son Seg-El’s efforts to restore dignity to their family’s name and tranquility to a planet in complete and utter turmoil. Malcolmson’s character did actually appear in the pilot, but was portrayed by a different actress.
The real juicy news comes in the casting of Blake Ritson in the role of intellectually advanced and equally evil android as well as one of Superman’s most formidable adversaries: Brainiac. Is it me or is this series starting to look like it may be a real winner?
The series stars Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod, Ian McElhinney as Val-El, Elliot Cowan as Daron Vex, Ann Ogbomo as Alura Zod, Rasmus Hardiker as Kem, Wallis Day as Nyssa Vex, Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em, Paula Malcolmson as Charys-El, and Blake Ritson as Brainiac. Here’s the official synopsis:
Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos.
Krypton premieres during the 2017-2018 TV Season.
