With Comic-Con 2017 in full swing, DC Films / Warner Bros. is expected to be a major player at the show and reveal much about their canon of properties, specifically, their schedule of upcoming films.
It was announced earlier today that Shazam! would finally be getting the green light and will be the next major DCEU property to go into production. Now, on the heels of that announcement, comes the news that the project has officially found its director.
In a panel discussion today at Comic-Con that was being hosted by Kevin Smith, it was revealed that David Sandberg would be taking the helm of the project. In fact, it was Sandberg himself that broke the news which completely caught Smith by surprise.
When asked at what point into production the film was, Sandberg revealed, “It’s coming along pretty well. I’m very happy with the script and how it’s all coming along so it’s super exciting.
The addition of Shazam! To the DCEU’s schedule of projects was actually announced some time ago, but has been in a holding pattern while other projects such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, and the November 2017 release of Justice League have left it in their dust.
The director has been on the short list of possible directors for the project for some time, but has only today been confirmed. Sandberg is known for his work on films such as Zombie Brother, Kung Fury and its upcoming sequel, Kung Fury II: The Movie, which is currently in production with a 2018 release.
