It’s been known for some time that Grace Fulton (Annabella: Creation) had been cast in a role in the upcoming DC Comics film Shazam!, but the actual role she’d be portraying had yet to be revealed. That is, until now.
Fulton took to her personal Instagram to reveal the news and to share her joy about joining the upcoming DC Comic film adaption with a copy of Shazam #7 which hails from 1973. While Fulton was spreading the word on her account Shazam! director, David F. Sandberg, was also making things official on his Instagram account by announcing that Fulton would indded be portraying Mary Batson, also famously known as Mary Marvel, the only female member of the Shazam Family.
The actress will be working along side of Disney star Asher Angel who has been cast as the young Billy Batson, with Zachary Levi portraying the Captain himself and Dylan Grazer rounding out the cast as Freddy Freedman. Mark Strong (Green Lantern, Sherlock Holmes) is currently in talks for the role of the mad scientist and arch enemy of Captain Marvel, Doctor Sivana, who first went toe to toe with the superhero in the pages of Whiz Comics back in 1940.
Shazam is a DC Comics character who first debuted in 1939 with the original name of Captain Marvel. Created by C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character was first published by Fawcett Comics. Shazam himself is the alter-ego of the aforementioned teenage Billy Batson who has the ability to say the word “Shazam,” and transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods after saying the word.
Shazam! is expected to smash onto theater screens in April 2019.
