While out on a press junket to promote War of the Planet of the Apes, director Matt Reeves is of course also asked about his next highly anticipated project, The Batman starring Ben Affleck. Reeves confesses that his Caped Crusader will be exploring the detective side of the character.
In the majority of his celluloid incarnations, Batman has predominantly used more brawn than brains to defeat his enemies. While it’s more visually exciting up on the screen, Reeves plans on putting the detective back into the Dark Knight.
“There’s a chance to do an almost noir driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that will hopefully connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart,” Reeves stated in an interview with New Trailer Buzz for his latest project, War of the Planet of the Apes.

It’s great to see Reeves taking the character in a new direction. I can definitely see this being a very cool take on Batman. We’ve seen him use his keen intellect in many other ways, such as outwitting an adversary, but for him to work as true detective has been relatively unseen on screen. If Reeves does this right, he could very well be redefining the character as we have seen him and come to expect in cinema. Who else has got goose bumps right now?
