During the episode of The Flash, “Killer Frost”, it was finally revealed that Julian Albert (Tom Felton) was in fact the diabolical Dr. Alchemy. But was anyone really surprised? I have a lot of faith in the deductive skills in my fellow Flash fans and have a difficult time believing that most of the viewing audience thought that Felton’s sole purpose on the show was to portray a douchey, Draco Malfoy-like CSI. Not that he doesn’t do it well, but I’m confident when I say that most knew there had to be more to his role and that he was more than likely Alchemy once the character was revealed.
Now, thanks to concept artist Andy Poon and Instagram, we get a front row look at the artwork that he created during development of the sinister character.
Over on Instagram, Andy Poon uploaded concept illustration work he did for The Flash. “They finally revealed the secret identity of Doctor Alchemy in the latest episode of [The Flash] titled [“Killer Frost”] directed by [Kevin Smith],” Poon commented with his work. “Here’s the concept illustration I worked on for costume designer Maya Mani, mask design provided by Flash’s art department. Almost time for the crossover!”
The concept art shows in detail Alchemy’s long flowing robe and what appears to be a quilted tunic and leather pants beneath. We’re seeing a lot of detail in the character’s long-nosed mask as well. Poon has also included an image of Doctor Alchemy’s gauntlet, which we’re seeing in detail for the first time, which was eventually presented to costume designer Maya Mani.
