It was announced earlier today that Warner Bros. Studios has given the go ahead to develop a standalone Nightwing film with LEGO Batman director, Chris McKay, at the helm.
McKay, currently in final negotiations with WB for the director’s role, will be working along side of Bill Dubuque, who will be writing the script for the film. Dubuque also successfully scripted Ben Affleck‘s film, The Accountant. McKay is known for his work on Moral Orel, Titan Maximum and Robot Chicken.
For those unfamiliar with the Nightwing character, his true identity is Dick Grayson, yes, that Dick Grayson, who was the original Robin, Batman’s partner in crime fighting.
The Nightwing film, which does not yet have a release date or window, joins the long line of films slated from Warner Bros. and DC Films. Also promised from the studio are two Justice League films, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps, The Batman, Gotham City Sirens, and sequels to Man of Steel and Suicide Squad. Two of these films will arrive before 2017 comes to a close with the Patty Jenkins directed Wonder Woman hitting theaters in June and Justice League following it up in November with Batman v. Superman helmer Zack Snyder in the director’s chair.
First, a standalone Batman film and now a Nightwing film. This is all amazing news and we are very excited to see these projects come to fruition. How do you feel about a Nightwing film and McKay directing it? Let us know below.
