The entertainment world and Marvel fans alike are still abuzz from the possibilities that could come from the mega-acquisition of 21st Century Fox‘s film and television assets by Marvel Studios owner, Disney. Specifically, a crossover between the mutant team, X-Men, and the current reigning cinematic super-team, The Avengers, has long been awaited. Now, some encouraging words from an associated producer, fans the flames of this possibility, elevating fan excitement to a fever pitch.
The producer of which we speak would be X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner, whose association with every X-production in both the film and television universes, makes her a leading expert on the possibilities of a crossover with the Avenger Franchise coming to fruition.
When questioned about the topic during a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Donner flippantly quipped, “Sure, why not?” Donner continued, “Look, it’s 18 months [away], so who knows. For me, I think [Disney CEO] Bob Iger is one of the smartest men in the country. [Walt Disney Studios Chairman] Alan Horn’s an old friend. [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige was my intern and assistant and then my associate producer on the first X-Men. Kevin and I started the X-Men together, so for me if we work with Kevin, I’m happy.”
Feige is said to be onboard and excited about bringing these additional characters into Marvel Studios’ fold of intertwined universes. Though the acquisition and the process involved will still take an estimated twelve to eighteen months to hammer out all the details. Once completed, current residents The Avengers, Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy, will be sharing space in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic Four.
Disney’s upcoming installment in the Avengers Franchise, Avengers: Infinity War, which will smash onto screens in May, unites the majority of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s heroes on screen for the first time on screen. So, what’s wrong with a few more added to the party? If you ask me, absolutely nothing!
